The midsection is one of the hardest parts of the body to tone and maintain. Having that belly fat is not only unsightly, but unhealthy as well. One possible reason why those fats won’t budge may be because of your age. As you get older, the body changes its way of gaining and losing weight. Another reason may also be because you’re doing the wrong exercises and focusing on cardio workouts without doing anything to strengthen your abs. Doing the former alone won’t help you lose fats around the waist, although the added muscles will help your body burn more fat and calories.

Including processed foods in your diet may also increase your body’s inflammation, hence, increase your belly fat as well. Eating too many junk foods may also affect the body’s natural ability to lose excess visceral fats around your tummy. So if you want to prevent this from happening, you can always for natural foods like vegetable, whole grains, and fruits.

Stressing it out too much will also make it hard for you to lose weight and get rid of those ugly flabs. Besides reaching out for foods high in fats and calories, experiencing stress also causes the body to release cortisol, which enlarges the fat cells and increases the amount of visceral fats retained in the body.

What you can do

Getting enough exercise is the first step to losing belly and visceral fat. It’s best if you practice getting moderate exercise for 30 minutes every other day. It doesn’t matter what kind of exercise it is. It can even be brisk walking. Just remember to breathe harder and work it up to keep your heart rate faster.

Including more fiber in your diet can also help. Getting more than 10 grams of it every day will help the body build up less amount of visceral amount, compared to those who don’t eat enough fiber. So eat more greens, and avoid eating junk and processed foods as much as possible.

It’s also important to get the right amount of sleep. Say, around six or seven hours every night. Even a study proves that those who get enough sleep gained less visceral fats compared to people who don’t get enough shut eye.

You should get rid of your belly fat not only to make you look better, but to help you feel better as well. Living a healthier lifestyle and doing regular exercises will prevent diseases such as heart problems and diabetes, from happening. It’s also better to find ways to handle your stress effectively so you won’t have to suffer its negative consequences.
